17% of cardiac surgeons are women, 17% of tenured professors are women. It just goes on and on. And isn’t that strange that that’s also the percentage of women in crowd scenes in movies? What if we’re actually training people to see that ratio as normal so that when you’re an adult, you don’t notice?

…We just heard a fascinating and disturbing study where they looked at the ratio of men and women in groups. And they found that if there’s 17% women, the men in the group think it’s 50-50. And if there’s 33% women, the men perceive that as there being more women in the room than men.

GROUND FLOOR ANIME - “Captain Earth”

Thanks to the wonders of an Anime North facebook page, I found Captain Earth, a new anime that premiered in Japan… yesterday. April 5, 2014, Captain Earth premiered and I was lucky enough to catch a subbed copy here in Canada this morning.

In my curiosity to fortell cosplay surges (this year’s being Attack on Titan and Frozen) I’m going to start watching and looking for animes the minute that they come out, or as close to them as I can.

For those interested, Captain Earth (which I resist the urge to type “planet” in place of “earth” in the title) is a new age mech that has wonderful animation and visuals. The eyes are done with feeling and the creators have avoided using 3d in a 2d environment, something that I’m drawn to in mechs. For those who loved Eureka 7, this is by the same creators.

The key synopsis has not yet been fleshed out, but as I watch, I will keep people interested updated with reactions and whether or not I horribly bail from the fandom. It is based around Earth protecting itself from a group with a very large base on the moon. It is only slightly futuristic, so Gundam fans, don’t think that these mechs are commonplace like they are in Seed. There are still a lot of questions that I have to answer, but let’s see if this is wonderful or if it ends up turning into Season 2 of Sword Art Online *shivers*
