Some of our handy handouts designed to help people learn about queer issues and identities!
Educate yourself, and then educate the world!
I mean I love these kinds of things and they’re all totally true, etc.
But holy moly I’d be seriously miffed if someone thought they could learn about my gender identity by not asking me to tell them about it and what it means to me. Especially if I couldn’t sum it up in some fancy single word that you could google and they were trying to research using an approximation or something only partially accurate because they heard that it wasn’t OK to ask said queer to give them anything more than an elevator speech summing up their identity.
If identities tend to be unique to every individual, then what the heck is the point in trying to learn from everywhere BUT the source? I’d never want someone inadvertently putting words in my mouth in the name of educating themselves about me.
